Welcome to the tutorials page of Blackbird. This is not to imply that Blackbird is so complicated as to warrant an extensive tutorial, but there is a user interface that requires some getting used to. To keep the applet from getting too big, there is not much in the way of help options from the applet itself.
But these tutorials aim to be as helpful as possible, to show how to deploy and use the software. So please see these links below pertaining to the topic you are looking for.
- Packaging, signing, and deployment of Blackbird.
These are instructions on the signing of the jar file for use by you on your own server. If you have your own website for which you want to use Blackbird, then this should be your first stop. Everyone who wants to use Blackbird is encouraged to compile and sign their own applet for added security.
- Using CodeMeter Encryption
This tutorial shows you how to use CodeMeter, a very powerful hardware-based encryption system that is commonly seen in the USB form factor, for encrypting and decrypting your data.
- Using WibuKey/Securikey Encryption
Like CodeMeter, these are also hardware-based, and used in a very similar way. So similar in fact that they could have all used the same tutorial, yet CodeMeter is a rapidly expanding product and things will change for the better. This is not to imply that WibuKey and Securikey are getting obsolete, they are very secure encryption products and also continue to improve on a different track.
- Using ROT13 Encryption
This is such a simple encryption algorithm that one may wonder why bother with a tutorial. But all Blackbird encryption "entities" are treated with respect.
- How to use Twofish
Though the name is not wierd or highly technical, Twofish is not to be laughed at. It was an AES candidate and is still as yet proven a tough nut to crack. This tutorial shows you how to use the Blackbird implementation of this Symetric Key Encryption System.
- One Time PAD Encryption Tutorial
The rare One Time PAD Encryption System for which Blackbird was originally designed for. This tutorial not only shows how to use the applet-side deployment of the encryption, but how to use the MINK utility (a Java application) that creates and manages the PAD encryption/decryption keys.
- Crow Desktop Encryption-Decryption Tool User Guide
The entire core Blackbird system is adapted to a desktop application that can be used for encryption and decryption of messages in those cases where an applet is not used. You can encrypt any message using your choice of the available encryption tools in Blackbird, and send it through any medium you want, using Crow on both ends.
- Nevermore PAD Encryption Utility User Guide NEW!
Nevermore is an adaptation of the PAD Encryption System of the Blackbird Core and uses MINK to manage key sequences. It uses a more advanced interface and automatic sequence management, and an additional feature for managing sequence updated across a group. Some familiarity with MINK and the PAD Encryption System in general are recommended for using Nevermore.
